**Example: **Present age of Ram’s father is 4 times ram’s age. 5 years from now, father’s age will become 3 times of Ram’s age, find present age of Ram’s father.

** Solution: **Father Son

Old Ratio = 4 : 1

New Ratio = 3 : 1

Therefore *x* = (5*(3-1))/(4*1-3*1) = 5*2/1 = 10 =>Father’s present age = 4*10 = 40 years.

4. If ratio if age of a father and sum of ages of **n** children is **a:b***. *After **k **years, the ratio becomes **c:d**, the present age of the father is **ax** and sum of ages of children is **bx**, where

**Example: **Ratio of father’s age and sum of ages of his three children is 3:1. After 3 years, father’s age will be twice of children’s age. Find the present age of the father.

**Solution: **Old Ratio = 3 : 1

New Ratio = 2 : 1

**x = (nc-d)k/(ad-bc) **= ((3*2)-1)*3/3-2 = 15 => Father’s age 3*x = *3*15 = 45 years.
